Black Butte Adventures is a eight mile loop of hiking and single-track biking trail area on the Effertz Black Butte Acres Ranch near Sawyer, North Dakota. We have created a diversification of farm and native short grass pasture land through trails that focus on mountain biking and hiking for the competitive mountain biker and the casual walker. The bikers and hikers share this land with grazing purebred Limousin cattle, horses and a variety of critters native to this area.
Black Butte Adventures not only hosts hiking and biking enthusiasts, but family-based activities. The beautiful prairie is ideal for native floral and fauna lovers. A variety of wildlife can be spotted in early and late hours of the day near the creek. The Butte allows visitors to see North Dakota prairie and agriculture land. At night, stars seem to fall into your open hands. The open spaces allow families to enjoy the great outdoors in a safe and inviting setting.

The Effertz family has been hosts to people from across the United States and several foreign countries. Effertz Black Butte Acres Limousin has been a regular stop for multiple groups, including the University of North Dakota new college faculty, Norsk Hostfest, U.S. Air Force and Minot Area Chamber of Commerce tours. Our attitude toward visitors is always welcoming while educating you about rural heritage and the importance and value of agriculture.
